CHENANGO COUNTY – Commerce Chenango is highlighting the local efforts to keep Chenango County green for Earth Day.

Falling on April 22, the holiday is being celebrated across the breadth of Chenango County.

On April 6, P.A.K. Construction hosted their annual Clean Up Guilford Roads Day.

They had a dumpster outside their shop in Guilford for roadside trash to be collected and disposed of, and they provided food for those who participated. The dumpster was provided by WRE of Sidney and the food and drink were donated by The Canine Canal in Brisben and Bonnie’s in Greene. There was also a cleanup effort on March 30 in preparation for the BBQ cleanup in April.

As for upcoming events, Friends of Rogers is celebrating Earth Day from 11 a.m. To 3 p.m. on April 20, with a day of education and celebration.

They will ensure their attendees follow the theme of Getting to Know Their Wild Neighbors. Experts and enthusiasts will be there to educate attendees about nature and wildlife. The secondary theme of the day is How to Live a Greener Life in CNY and will include experts giving tips and answering questions about conservation and sustainable living.

There will also be the debut of Roger’s Artist in Residence, Edmond Caputo. Caputo will be debuting the work he made while he lived off and on at Rogers’ Stone House, exhibiting the inspiration the center gave him. The Village of New Berlin is also celebrating Earth Day with various events on April 20.

There will be a Contractor Fair at the Chobani Center from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m. Attendees will e able to meet local contractors to discuss fix-up projects for their homes and will be able to learn about the Village’s low-interest loan program.

Secondly, there will be Free Paper Shredding in front of the old Fire Department Building from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., provided by NBT Bank. Lastly, there is a Tire & Waste Disposal event on 10 School Street (old bus garage) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., village residents will be able to have their tires and other items from around their homes transported and disposed of by B&H Property Maintenance LLC. Note that some items are not permitted.

There will be an effort to clean up New Berlin starting at 8:45am at the Rotary Pavilion near Chobani field. There will be mulching, planting, raking and more.
