Local Athletes Compete In Indoor Track State Championships

STATEN ISLAND – After finishing the indoor track season strong, local Chenango County athletes headed to states, held at Ocean Breezee Track and Field Facility in Staten Island. Two athletes from Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton, Norwich, and Unadilla Valley did their best at states this winter season against several other schools. Everyone also made the local Chenango County community proud. Congratulations to all.

BGA:

Ethne Degan and Collin Dicks pushed through in their final season to make states for the BGA Bears this season. Ethne competed in the 1000 meter run, where she finished 29th in the finals with a time of 3:10.62. Dicks made the top 20 with a 17th place finish in the triple jump event with a jump of 42 feet and a half inch (42-0.5).

NHS:

Richard Fuller and Gabe Decker did not make the cut for the finals in the 300 meter dash, but did their best throughout the season to make states. Fuller finished 27th with a time of 36.08 as Decker came in 31st with a time of 36.64 in the preliminaries.

UV:

Jaiden Schrag and Gracie Gorrell were the representatives for the Unadilla Valley Storm at states this winter. Schrag finished her senior indoor season with a 15th place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 8.74 seconds, which is a new personal record.

Gorrell was a member of the intersectional relay team. Section IV's team came in 12th place in the girls 3400 meter distance medley relay with a time of 11:04.29.

Great efforts to everyone and best of luck to the seniors; Ethne Degan, Collin Dicks, Richard Fuller, and Jaiden Schrag. Many of these athletes will now make the transition to the spring outdoor track season.
