AURORA – On Tuesday, the Bainbridge-Guilford girls’ basketball team traveled to take on Southern Cayuga in the opening round of the Section IV, Class C tournament. B-G controlled the boards steadily to pick up the 48-33 victory to advance to the next round of sectionals.

B-G went off in the first quarter with 18 points and held Southern Cayuga to just four points, settling with a 14-point lead. However, before the break, the Cougars were able to flip the outcome as they held the Bobcats to single-digit scoring and went on a big run. B-G took a 26-17 lead at halftime.

B-G matched efforts from the first quarter into the third quarter with going back into a strong offensive mindset and continued to play tough on defense. This game plan extended the Bobcats lead and allowed them to still be consistent in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.

Marissa Mayo led the Bobcats with 17 points, where she knocked down three three’s and made four-of-eight free throws in the final quarter. Jayslin Henderson followed with 10 points as Peyton Umbra hit two three’s for eight points.

B-G (12-8) is off to play top seed Watkins Glen on Friday at 6 p.m.
