BINGHAMTON – While the second annual girls’ wrestling state invitational was held a few weeks ago, the Section IV girls’ sectionals took place over the weekend, along with the boys, at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. Oxford-Greene was the lone local county team that was well represented with talented ladies. Lily Karn, Kelsey Loiselle, Brooke Williams, and Ahraya Whitt all competed and did well for the Blackhawks.

Karn earned the highest placement for the team as she finished third. Karn, only an eighth grader, went 3-1 in the 152 weight class. She defeated Horseheads’ Kalyani Wiehe twice by pins, including a quick 36 second pin, and won against teammate Loiselle in a 48 second pin. Karn’s only loss came to Oneonta’s Leylani Wiltshire in a 1:04 pin. Karn finished the 2023-2024 season, which was her very first season, with a 7-5 record with six pins.

Loiselle, Williams, and Whitt all achieved sixth place. Loiselle, a sophomore who is also in the 152 weight class, went 1-3 with her only win by a 12-0 major decision against Horseheads’ Lydia Rockwell, which was her third win of the season. Fellow sophomore Brooke Williams earned her only win of the day against Oneonta’s Valentina Carotenuto in 2:24. Williams finished the season 13-11 with 11 pins.

Whitt rounded out the meet with a win against Union-Endicott’s Serenity Pearson in a 7-6 decision. Whitt finished her first wrestling season with a 8-13 record.

Congratulations, ladies.
