Wrestling: S-E Finishes Eighth At Sectionals; Andrade Is A Sectionals Champ

SYRACUSE – After winning the Class D championships, the Sherburne-Earlville wrestling team went into sectionals, which were held at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College. S-E, who had 11 wrestlers qualify for sectionals, finished tied for eighth with Copenhagen as both teams had 71 points. Jordan-Elbridge won the Section III, division II championships with a best 139 points.

Out of 11 wrestlers, S-E had one sectionals champion as junior Landon Andrade won the 285 weight class. Andrade went 3-0 with all pins, including his quickest 22 second pin against Mount Markham's Jermaine Davis. Teammate Jackson Moore finished third in the 108 weight class, suffering his only loss to Adirondack's Seth Strain in a 4:30 pin. Moore won two decisions and pinned APW/Pulaski's Aidan Lagowski in 3:10. Moore will head to his very first States championship in a few weeks.

S-E's Justin Race finished sixth in the 152 weight class as he went 3-3. He earned two pins and won one match on a disqualification. Race's quickest pin was against Holland Patent's Noah Rivera in 35 seconds.

Aiden Kiehn and Cody Clarkson both gave their best efforts in their respective weight classes and both went 2-2 on the day with no placement. Kiehn won by decision and with a 1:36 pin against Hannibal's Pah Per-hee. Clarkson also won by decision and with a 2:34 pin against Lowville's Mason Eckelman Ouellette in the 170 weight class.

Cameron Mason, Andrew Menard, and Nick Miller each picked up one win as Selina Moore, Trenton Anderson, and Richie Fuller had a challenging day on the mat.

Good luck to Landon Andrade and Jackson Moore at States. The NYSPHSAA Wrestling State Championships will be held at the MVP Arena in Albany on the weekend of February 23 and 24.
