DOWNSVILLE – Coming off a big win against Unadilla Valley, the Greene Trojans boys’ basketball team traveled to Downsville to take on the Walton/Downsville Warriors. Greene has been used to either big wins or tight games and they surely had their hands full with Walton/Downsville on Thursday night. Greene pushed through in overtime to win 60-58 to close out the regular season.

The Warriors were off to a good start, but Greene amped up before the break. Joel Vielandi excelled with 10 of the team’s total 17 quarter points and the Trojans took a close 29-27 lead.

Both teams only showed off in the second half, matching efforts as the game was tied at 48 all at the end of regulation. With Walton/Downsville’s leading scorer, Tyler Reed, knocking down three’s throughout the contest, Greene held him to one in overtime and had Will Dunlap and Colin Colgan to fire up the offense. Dunlap scored five and Colgan scored four of the team’s 12 points in overtime to secure the close victory.

Vielandi finished with 19 points as Dunlap had 16 and Trevor Ketcham joined in the fun with eight points. Colgan came away with seven points as Jaden Eroshevich was held to six points in the win.

The Trojans finish the 2023-2024 regular season with a 11-6 record and 9-1 in the MAC standings behind Delhi. Greene now awaits playoffs as other league teams wrap up the season.
