Oxford Library to host Vicky House book signing Vicky House has released her first publication, "Oxford New York History – The People, The Places & The Events – Including Stories from Greene, Smithville & Tyner."

OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library in Oxford will host Vicky House, Oxford Town/Village Historian on Saturday, February 3, 2024, starting at 10 a.m. for a brief book talk and signing.

Vicky has released her first publication, "Oxford New York History – The People, The Places & The Events – Including Stories from Greene, Smithville & Tyner." The book is the culmination of ten years of research, tracking down leads, collecting data, and writing articles for the local newspapers.

From the Introduction to the book, Vicky wrote, “For over 230 years, Oxford has written its own history and some of that can be found in historical books, but I liked the little known facts about the people, the places and the events that shaped this community and made us what we are today.

Story Continues Below Adverts

“Through old letters, diaries, newspaper articles, journals, county and state documents, stories written by families years ago and even some old scrapbooks, I am able to share more of that history. At times, my research took me to Greene, Smithville and Tyner when the people or events spread beyond Oxford. The 15-part series on The Sherwood in preparation for the grand re-opening, the cheese factory in Tyner and the flood of 1935 is just a little of the history we share.”

From "Anyone For a Sleigh Ride" to "The Day the Buffalo Landed in Oxford," "Fletcher’s Spring," "History Through a Camera Lens," "Robinson’s Mills and The Twin Bridges," and 60 more interesting stories of our local history is just the beginning.

After the event at the Oxford Memorial Library, books will be available to purchase and shipping will be available at a small cost. You can contact the Town or Village Historian through the town or village websites or by calling 607-843-9531.

"Oxford, New York History – The People, The Places & The Events - Including Stories From Greene, Smithville & Tyner – Volume 1" is 66 stories and just the beginning.
