Girls’ Basketball: Norwich Tops Oneonta

NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ basketball team is back on track with a 43-34 victory over STAC rivals Oneonta. Norwich rallied through in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Both teams showed strength in the first quarter, both tallying 11 points. Oneonta stayed consistent to take a brief 22-16 lead at halftime and held Norwich to five points in both the second and third quarters. However, Norwich had a big breakthrough in the fourth quarter, posting 21 points as Josey Ryan, Emma Urgo, and Olivia Schiraldi led final efforts.

Norwich outscored Oneonta 26-12 in the second half alone. Josey Ryan knocked in two three’s in the final eight minutes to lead Norwich with 16 points. Emma Urgo’s nine points all came in the second half while Kerrigan Reid’s seven came in the first half.

Olivia Schiraldi banked two three-pointers for six points in the win.

Norwich (5-3) travels to Sus Valley on Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
