NORWICH – Computer Technology students at the DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus finished installation of a sound and light show in front of the school last week.

The complex project began in October, according to Computer Technology instructor Ann French, with students researching the necessary hardware and software that would be needed to complete the task. Then they met with Career and Technical Education Director Jennifer Waite to share the scope of the project and explain their software and hardware needs. Students from the video game design and software development specializations created sequences that would sync lights to music, while the students in the computer technician specialization focused on the hardware aspect.

The Computer Technology students collaborated with students in the Welding program, who created the candy canes and large Christmas tree, the Carpentry program, who built the present boxes, and the Conservation and Heavy Equipment Operation program, which built the sleigh and reindeer. Visual Communications students create the signs. After some troubleshooting, the students succeeded in creating DCMO BOCES’ first ever light show.
