Boys’ Swimming: Greene Hosts Chenango Forks

GREENE – The Greene Trojans boys’ swim team hosted Chenango Forks on Wednesday, where they continue to post new best times. Gavin Demars and Izan Romero Requena earned new personal bests while their teammates finished strong in a tough meet.

Demars achieved two new best times in the 200 yard individual medley and in the 500 yard freestyle. The Senior finished third in the IM with a new personal best time of 2:57.56. He swam for a fourth place finish in a best time of 7:08.17 in the lengthy 500 yard event.

Izan Romero Requena continues to improve in his respective events, especially in the 50 yard freestyle. He accomplished a new best time of 33.15 seconds in the event, where he finished sixth. Teammate Hunter Becker came in second (27.31) while Sherman Ludolph finished fourth (29.23).

Romero Requena also finished sixth in the 100 yard freestyle as Drake Malmquist took second and Ludolph came in fifth place.

Greene’s Austin deHaan earned the team’s top individual finish on the night in the 100 yard breaststroke. He swam the event in a 1:24.82 with teammate Jon Westcott behind him in second place (1:26.23). deHaan also competed in the 200 yard freestyle, where he finished second. Westcott came in second in his prominent 100 yard butterfly event with a time of 1:13.88.

Westcott, Malmquist, Ludolph, and Demars swam in the 400 yard freestyle relay, where they won the event with a time of 4:46.70.

Greene looks to continue to drop times after the new year as they host Oneonta on January 4 at 5:30 p.m.
