OXFORD – The folk-acoustic venue, 6 On The Square in Oxford, will celebrate with a Christmas show when Nova Scotian sister duo Cassie and Maggie MacDonald return at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.

The internationally acclaimed, award-winning MacDonald sisters have appeared on stages across North America, the U.K. and Europe with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic instrumentals and vocals. Their performances feature fiddle, piano and guitar arrangements as well as sibling vocal harmonies in both English and Gaelic, all complemented by their percussive step-dancing style.

Their critical accolades include 2018 Juno Award nominations; winning the Galaxie Radio Rising Star award; 17 Canadian Folk Music, East Coast Music and Music Nova Scotia awards and nominations; Female Singers of the Year by Live Ireland Radio, Female Vocal Album of the Year by Chicago Irish American News; and Album of the Year by NPR’s “Celtic Connection.”

Last year, the duo released their first full-length holiday album, “A Very Very Cassie and Maggie Christmas,” which includes classic Christmas hymns, ancient carols and a sassy ode to the most mysterious of Santa’s reindeer, Vixen. The album reflects their place in a multi-generational musical dynasty where Christmas was always a time to gather and sing boisterously, as in days of old. The doors were always open to company, and the new year was just around the corner.
