NORWICH – The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is excited to announce that it has been selected to receive a Recreational Trails Program grant from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for improvements to the Stone Quarry Trail System! The Greenway site is one of 15 projects selected statewide for funding through this competitive matching grant.

In combination with an additional grant received from the Greater Norwich Foundation, this funding opens the door to public access improvements that will make visiting the property more enjoyable and more accessible. Planned improvements include improved parking, signage, improvements to the overlook and trail system, trail maps and user amenities such as benches, kiosks and way-finding trail signs.

Since acquiring the property in 2021, the Chenango Greenway Conservancy has been working to improve the Stone Quarry Trail System into a regional attraction for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. The overlook or “Face” of the quarry with its spectacular view of Norwich and the Chenango Valley is a popular destination for visitors and residents alike, and with this funding, will become more accessible to a greater spectrum of the community.

“This is an important step forward for our organization and the community, and we are grateful for the support our application received from community leaders, and also to NYS for recognizing the potential of this project to benefit our regional economy and help transform the area into a destination for outdoor recreational pursuits! We look forward to working with our stakeholders and the community as we move forward to implement these improvements,” said Sharon Pelosi, Chairperson of the Chenango Greenway Conservancy.
