NORWICH — The City of Norwich is looking into the issue of deer management within the city limits and would like to start with an advisory committee.
Those interested in joining the committee may contact Alderwoman Nancy Allaire at aldermanward3@norwichnewyork.net or by texting to 607-226-4392.
Officials said the deer issue has been raised by many residents. The committee would be a first step in considering the need to proceed further.
Mayor Brian Doliver recently said the city’s taken note of residents’ complaints that deer are becoming more of a nuisance than in previous years, raising concerns about the spread of ticks, disease, and the toll that deer are taking on vegetable gardens.
“All our wards have issues with this, but it primarily tends to be a third ward issue,” Doliver said. “We’re looking to form a committee now that would address the issue.”
