Audition For Musical The Spitfire Grill On Nov. 11, 15, 19
Published: November 7th, 2023

BAINBRIDGE - The Out of the Woodwork Players will hold auditions for their May 2024 musical,  "The Spitfire Grill,"  November  11, 15 and 19 in the Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre.

Based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff, with music and book by James Valeq, lyrics and book by Fred Alley,  this story of second chances features four women and three men.

Young female leads, Percy and Shelby, both in their mid twenties to mid thirties, are sopranos who "belt to D."  Percy is rough-edged and sad with deep layers of intensity,  while Shelby is painfully shy.

Grill owner, Hannah, around seventy, and busybody/postmistress Effy,  fifty to sixty, sing in the mezzo-alto range, with Effy carrying close harmony. Hannah is tough-skinned and abrupt, with serious hidden layers of depth. Effy's concern for the community drives her meddling.

Frustrated, working man Caleb, fortyish, has a "solid folk/rock voice with an edge."

The sheriff, Joe Sutter, in his mid to late twenties,  is a "strong folk tenor, singing to a G."

A third male, in his forties, is needed for the mysterious visitor.

Those auditioning should come prepared to sing a song of their choice acapella, participate in warm-ups and read for the roles.
