GREENE – In the 84 years since it was founded, the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) has commemorated community heritage, highlighting unique local landmarks and celebrating significant regional milestones. As a tribute to this enduring legacy and the  25th  anniversary of the Guilford Historical Society (GHS),  a celebration will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 124 County Road 26 in Guilford.

The event combines the annual CCHS membership meeting with guided tours of the GHS museum and a presentation on the history of the Roots Corners Schoolhouse. This year’s agenda for the annual membership meeting includes special recognition of Stephanie Coggins, who has fulfilled three, three-year terms on the CCHS Board of Trustees. The GHS anniversary  celebration includes traditional music performed by Katie Boardman as well as festive treats.

“We look forward to honoring the Guilford Historical Society’s silver anniversary in this meaningful way,” said Jessica Moquin, executive director of CCHS. “Performer Katie Boardman’s beautiful music will add an element of historic authenticity to this milestone celebration.”

With more than 20 years of experience in museums, including exhibition research, interpretation training, and master planning, Boardman has a gift for bringing stories of the past to life for current audiences. In addition to serving as an adjunct assistant professor for the Cooperstown Graduate Program in museum studies, she has been a church musician for more than 30 years in Lutheran, Methodist, Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Roman Catholic congregations. With a personal goal of inspiring joy through music-making, Boardman has also taught private and group lessons for more than three decades.

Last year, CCHS announced a refreshed and updated membership program, with streamlined categories and expanded core benefits. A selection of seven membership categories offer benefits for two adults at the same address, which extend to all persons 18 or under who reside with adult members. First established in 1939, CCHS is the primary organization dedicated to actively and comprehensively preserving the history of Chenango County.
