GREENE – On Tuesday, the Greene Trojans girls soccer team hosted Delhi in the final game of the 2023 season, which was also senior night. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after two 10 minute overtime periods.

Prior to the start of the game, the Greene Trojans honored its five seniors. Congratulations to Molly Cornell, Amber Simpson, Emily Keen, Billie Kinney, and Justina Parsons. Each senior played a huge role in keeping this game close.

After Delhi got on the board and took a 1-0 lead at halftime and throughout a majority of the second half, Greene wasn’t going down that easily. Greene earned a penalty kick late in the second half, which Molly Cornell took. Her shot just missed, but instead it was rebounded by Caitlin Walls who took advantage and scored within two minutes left in regulation.

Cornell, who’s been a tremendous goalkeeper for the Trojans throughout her high school career, was given the opportunity to play striker and came close to scoring on her special night. Audra Doll had Cornell’s back as she filled in as goalie, especially keeping Delhi from spoiling Greene’s celebration in overtime.

Doll and Cali Knapp also saw several touches of the ball, but couldn’t net one in against a pressure defense. Knapp led the Trojans with five goals this season while Cornell made over 500 saves in the four years playing for Greene.

Even though Greene didn’t have the season they’d like to have, as they finished the year 1-8-2, everyone kept their heads up throughout every game and stayed positive.
