ONEONTA - After a big challenge against Batavia last week, Norwich was prepared to take on rivals Oneonta on the road. The Purple Tornado came up big with a shutout 58-0 over the Yellowjackets.

Norwich didn't waste any time as they drove down the field in five consecutive drives. All in part of some help with their defense and special teams as well to contribute to the high scoring game. Norwich piled up 48 points alone in the first half.

Holden Ryan led the Purple Tornado with three rushing touchdowns for 133 yards, about half of the total 233 rushing yards. Colin Olds, Braden Hagenbuch, Sandler Montgomery, and Mitchell Collins also scored for the Tornado offense.

The Norwich defense helped set up some of these touchdown drives with pressuring Oneonta. On Oneonta's first drive, Norwich snagged an interception. Kasson Stubbs took it all the way to the end zone for a pick six to kick off the scoring for Norwich.

On the next drive, Oneonta had to punt, which Braden Hagenbuch recovered and took it all the way for another Norwich touchdown. There was no quit in this Norwich team with both sides staying strong.

The defense recovered a total of three interceptions and one fumble while holding the Yellowjackets to only 71 yards of total offense.

With the offense and defense pushing through, quarterback Steven Dowdall put trust in his team and the run game. He threw 2-for-5 completions for 34 yards and one touchdown. Spencer Root also booted a 29 yard field goal in the second half of play and made all but one extra point.

Norwich (1-1) hosts Johnson City on Friday at 7 p.m.

N (2nd Qtr): Steven Dowdall hands the ball off to Holden Ryan at the nine-Touchdown. Spencer Root's extra point is good.

N (2nd Qtr): Steven Dowdall hands the ball off to Sandler Montgomery at the 11-Touchdown. Spencer Root's extra point is good.

N (3rd Qtr): Spencer Root's 29 yard field goal is good.

N (4th Qtr): Mitchell Collins runs the ball from the 18 and carries the ball into the end zone. Spencer Root's extra point is good.

Sherburne-Earlville falls to Port Byron in final minutes 27-26. Darren Miles throws for two touchdowns and a total of 154 yards. Nick Hull rushes for two touchdowns and scores off a touchdown pass in the loss.

Bainbridge-Guilford defeats Sidney 24-14 on Saturday after being postponed with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter. B-G trailed 6-0 at halftime and scored all 24 points in the second half. Damon Seymour led the Bobcats with 11 carries for 137 yards and one touchdown. Connor Davy and Declyn Marshfield also rushed for touchdowns. Kaiden Seymour recovered two fumbles on defense.

Oxford falls to Elmira Heights 50-0.

UV Storm trails Trumansburg 7-0 prior to the game being postponed. The game will resume tonight (Monday) at 5:30 p.m.
