NORWICH – The first Upstate Renaissance Faire held at the Chenango County Fairground in Norwich last weekend hopes to become a yearly medieval tradition.

On Sept. 2 and 3 local residents welcomed knights, psychics, a harpist, axe throwers, leatherworkers, blacksmiths, metalworkers, jewelry makers, turkey legs, and more than 45 venders to Norwich.

Demonstrations and workshops were on hand, such as a yarn-spinning and leather making, where participants learned how to make their own items.

Many attendees dressed up in era appropriate garb. Playtrons also who dressed up in full costume and played the part of a renaissance-era characters, strolling the fairgrounds.

The Upstate Renaissance Faire's goal is to set up a permanent renaissance village on a private parcel of land to provide an even more immersive experience, several weekends of faires, holiday-themed faires, and educational opportunities for local schools.
