NORWICH – In the spirit of creative endeavors celebrated during the annual Colorscape Chenango festival, the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) will again host a series of tours featuring culturally and historically significant community spaces on Sept. 10.

Featuring unique opportunities for engagement with everyday exhibits, these tours will allow participants the opportunity to explore the ancestry and artistry within these local places.

The “Historic Architecture in Norwich” walking tours will be led by Architectural Historian Bryan McCracken, who specializes in the preservation of American structures – particularly buildings in and around Chenango County. A tour at 11:30 a.m. and a tour at 1:30 p.m. will each meet on and depart from the stairs of the historic Chenango County Courthouse in West Park, Norwich.

New this year, the “Local Treasures Revealed: Living Among History” building tour of One South Broad will be led by Will MacGuire, owner and proprietor of Live Event NY, the production company which has called the space home for several years. A tour at 12:30 p.m. will meet in and depart from the Live Event NY Showroom located on the corner of East Main and South Broad streets.

“We are thrilled to be adding to our historic tours for this year’s Colorscape Chenango festival,” said Jessica Moquin, CCHS executive director. “Bryan and Will both have unique perspectives on what makes these structures so important to our local heritage. These tours are excellent ways to explore regional landmarks and gain a deeper appreciation for our shared community culture.”

First established in 1939, CCHS is the area’s premier heritage museum dedicated to celebrating local culture – the unique traditions, noteworthy residents, and unusual stories of the region.CCHS programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.  While there is no charge for these tours, CCHS welcomes contributions to support future operations.
