Girls Soccer: Greene Starts Season Off Strong With Double Overtime Win Against Sidney

GREENE - A short time after the field hockey team pulled off a double overtime win, the Greene Trojans girls soccer team followed in pursuit. Greene defeated Sidney 2-1 in double overtime in front of their home crowd for the 2023 season opener.

After a scoreless first half of play, Sidney got on board first with 31:37 left in the game. Cali Knapp answered back off a breakaway to help Greene tie it with over 15 minutes left in regulation. The game remained tied at 1 up until the second overtime.

Audra Doll scored the game-winner after her first shot was saved by the goalie and picked up the goal off a rebound with five minutes left on the scoreboard.

Greene's senior goalkeeper Molly Cornell made 12 saves in the win.

Greene hosts their annual soccer tournament on Thursday, September 6 and will conclude on Saturday, September 9. Greene, Oxford, Newark Valley, and Tioga are all participants this year. Greene will face MAC league opponent Oxford on Thursday at 7 p.m.
