Last NBT Summer Concert Series rocks East Parks on Thursday with Shinyribs The Summer Concert Series sponsored by NBT will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31 in East Park on Broad and Main Street. Shinyribs will close out the Concert Series with their Austin based melting pot of Texas blues, New Orleans R&B funk and horn driven Memphis soul. NORWICH — The Summer Concert Series sponsored by NBT will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31 in East Park on Broad and Main Street.

Chenango Blues Association President Eric Larsen said Shinyribs may be the most entertaining act touring today and shouldn’t be missed. It’s equal parts Texas blues, New Orleans funk and Memphis should with a cinematic flair.

“You really should make sure to come down and close out the NBT Thursday concert series. It’s a great way to finish off the summer,” Larsen added.

Shinyribs website disclosed the nine piece, (sometimes 10-piece) Austin based band is led by Kevin Russell; known for his electric guitar and ukulele change ups, charismatic supercharged colorful suits and shoes, and his energizing antics on stage.

“Transit Damage” is the new Shinyribs album, out on Hardcharger Records and debuted at number three on the Billboard Blues Chart.

Russell started playing in 2007 as a solo side act but when he joined with other musicians, the name soon became the bands name. It comes from a transient woman’s shout out after Russell had given her a plate of ribs.

Food vendors will be available and include, Joe’s Food Shack, Hubcap Munchies, Nina’s Pizzeria, Gilligan’s Ice Cream, Lickety Split Ice Cream, and Deja Brew. The Beer Garden will be adjacent to the park.

Thursday concerts are rain or shine, so please come well equipped to stay and enjoy through sunshine or a light drizzle. In the event of hazardous weather, and for the safety of our musicians and community, the performance sight may change.

"If such a change occurs we will post the move and the location by noon on the performance date. Please check our Facebook page, website, and subscribe to our mailing list for the most current information," reported the Blues Association.

The NBT summer concert sponsors include, NBT, Greater Norwich Foundation, R.C. Smith Foundation and other generous foundations. Media sponsors include, The PennySaver, The Evening Sun, and NYS music.

The Chenango Blues Association is a nonprofit 501(C)3 organization whose mission is to foster an appreciation of uniquely American music forms including blues, jazz, zydeco, and gospel.

They strive to accomplish this by presenting the highest caliber of artists in diverse settings for the lowest possible cost. This strategy is designed to make the music accessible to as many people as possible.
