NORWICH – Chenango Greenway Conservancy Board Member John Killean and his wife Judy will be taking hikers up a trail at the Chenango Greenway Conservancy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday August 8.

Hikers will meet at Upper Ravine Road and be prepared to hike round trip 3.4 miles.

John said, “The trail has a few steep areas here but nothing continuous. The trails are a combination of hiking trails and biking trails with single and double track trails. The single track has a lot of technical sections for people on Mountain bikes. They go off of jumps and stuff up there.”

“Its not unusual to run into wildlife and for the kids, they especially like the newts, they're orange salamanders, tree toads and a lot of small animals like that,” John said. “It's not unusual to see owls or hear them, see wildflowers and birds of different varieties; three or four species along the way.”

John and Judy took eleven hikers up to the Greenway Conservancy trail last week on an impromptu hike as the hikers had heard about “The Keeper” and wanted to know all about what happens up on the hill.

Judy said, “It wasn't scheduled for the community, it was for some out of towners and friends.”

John explained what he thought interesting about the hike was the age group. A four year old was the youngest and the oldest was 80.
