NORWICH – After taking a dominant lead after round one, Lee Skillin and partner Jim Gorski didn’t surprise anyone by holding the lead for the final two rounds. Skillin and Gorski won the Master’s flight against tough competition with the lowest score of a 198, which was one better than Walling and Smith’s score of a 199 last year. This was Skillin and Gorski’s first win since 2009 and their second tournament win overall.

Skillin and Gorski held a five stroke lead, going into the final round on Saturday afternoon. Matt Burrell and Craig Dawson, who’ve won in recent years (2020 and 2021) and paired with the leaders in the final round, finished in third place, but tied with Eric Walling and Ryan Hagen with a 206. Walling and Hagen had a better score in the round with a 69 over Burrell and Dawson’s 71.

Overall, the 2023 member-guest tournament was a success with 100 teams and 200 players.

It was also memorable, especially when several golfers huddled underneath the pro shop shack for at least 45 minutes in the thunder, lightning, and hail during the second round on Friday night.

The round was called for darkness around 8:30 p.m. with a few golfers unable to finish all 18 holes. As stated in the rules, those players finished with a par for the remaining holes due to the weather conditions. Those that finished the round were given a choice of either taking the par or if they shot better on the final few holes.

Congratulations to Lee Skillin and Jim Gorski on winning the tournament and the Carson family will look forward to seeing if the pair can defend their title next year in year 66.
