NORWICH – Armed with a newly announced federal grant to combat underage drinking, the Chenango Health Network is taking aim at the norms of alcohol use among youth.

The Chenango Health Network (CHN) was awarded funding in July through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant, which is funneled through HHS’ Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Act, provides CHN with $60,000 per year over the course of five years to support programs targeting alcohol consumption among minors.

According to CHN Director Kimberly Lorraine, STOP funds will allow CHN to partner with two Chenango County school districts in addition to its already existing partnership with the Norwich City School District.

Lorraine said funds will also generate more opportunities for activities and student-driven clubs in partnering school districts.
