Local canoer competes in the Yukon

CHENANGO COUNTY – Local canoer Holly Crouch, a retired military veteran and current special education teacher at Sherburne-Earlville Central School, recently competed in the Yukon River Quest in Yukon, Canada. Crouch, who has spent 41 years on the waters competitively canoeing, competed in the 500 mile race with a Belgian men’s/mixed team that went down the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City.

Crouch and her team placed first in their class and sixth place overall. Crouch was fortunate to compete with this team, whose members she’d raced with previously.

Crouch also competed in the General Clinton Canoe Regatta this past May, where she was induced into the 10th annual Regatta Hall of Fame. She is now preparing to compete in the AuSable triple Crown Canoe race, a 120-mile race in Grayling Michigan over the weekend of July 29 and 30.

Good luck Holly.
