SHERBURNE – After a dynamic win over Oxford to start the 2023 PONY League season, the Bainbridge-Guilford Thunder traveled to Sherburne on Monday evening. B-G held on to a 6-3 victory through seven innings and head to the bye round with a hot 2-0 start.

B-G had tremendous base running to help them establish a comfortable lead, including eight stolen bases. The Thunder got on the board in the top of the third inning after two scoreless innings by both sides.

Kaiden Seymour led off the inning with a base hit and Parker Buttice followed behind him with one of his own. Seymour scored on a fielder’s choice groundout from Damon Seymour. Damon Seymour made his way in to score with excellent base running. Damon paved the way with four stolen bases in his three plate appearances.

Kaiden Seymour picked up his second hit of the night in the fifth with a double as B-G added two more runs off a passed ball and a wild pitch. Gavin Gifford drove in the final two runs on a fielder’s choice RBI in the seventh inning.

Damon Seymour almost pitched a complete game on the mound, but was taken out with one out left and with a runner on third. Kaiden Seymour struck out the final batter to earn the save. Damon had 10 strikeouts through six and two-third innings pitched.

It was a team effort in Sherburne’s first PONY League game of the season. The Marauders were down 2-0 before answering back in the bottom of the third inning. Wesley Fisher reached on an error and came around to score on a passed ball. After B-G added on to their lead, Sherburne continued to follow along, but were held to only one run in the fifth and one in the seventh inning.

Chadwick Nower drove in the Marauders next run on a RBI single while Wesley Fisher drove in the final run with a deep sacrifice fly to center field in the final at-bats in the seventh.

Owen Brown earned the start for Sherburne and went four and a third innings, where he struck out six batters. Cameron Mason and Caleb Neuenschwander pitched in relief.

Both defenses were terrific in the field with great catches and plays, but it was B-G’s solid base running that sealed the deal.

Both teams are expected to have a bye week, but schedules could change. For more information, check the Otsenango PONY League website through leaguelineup.com.
