NEW BERLIN — Preferred Mutual Insurance Company has announced the 2023 scholarship recipients for the Preferred Foundation Scholarship, Irad and Jan Ingraham/James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship, Christopher P. Taft Scholarship, and the Preferred Foundation Christopher P. Taft Scholarship.

The Preferred Foundation, the corporate giving entity of Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, has a long-standing commitment to helping young people achieve their goals. For more than 30 years, the Preferred Foundation has been awarding scholarship support to graduating high school seniors from Otsego, Delaware, or Chenango Counties who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to their community.

We are pleased to announce that Payton Yahner of Greene High School is the first-place recipient of the 2023 Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship. Payton will be attending Ithaca College in the fall, where she will major in Physical Therapy. Payton will receive $3,000 each year for four years. Owen Burnsworth of Oneonta Senior High School is the second-place recipient of the 2023 Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship. He will be attending Bentley University in the fall and plans to major in Business and Finance. Owen will receive $1,500 each year for four years.

The Irad and Jan Ingraham/James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Preferred Foundation, awards two Unadilla Valley Central School seniors with a demonstrated record of strong community service and academic standing with scholarship support for four years at the college or university of the students’ choice.

Alexander White is the first-place awardee of the 2023 Irad and Jan Ingraham/James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship. Alexander, who will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall with plans to major in Psychology, will receive $1,500 each year for four years.

Allison Allen is the second-place awardee of the 2023 Irad and Jan Ingraham/James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship and will receive $1,000 each year for four years. Allison will be attending SUNY Cortland this fall and plans to study Adolescence Education Mathematics.

For 2023, the Preferred Foundation will be honoring its immediate past CEO Christopher P. Taft, who has retired from the role, with two named scholarship opportunities for college-bound seniors. The 2023 Christopher P. Taft Scholarship awards a graduating senior who resides in Otsego, Delaware, or Chenango County in New York, or is a child of a non-officer Preferred Mutual employee, has maintained a high academic standing, and is pursuing a degree in Accounting or Business.

The 2023 Preferred Foundation Christopher P. Taft Scholarship awards one Unadilla Valley High School Senior with a demonstrated record of strong community service and academic achievement and pursuing a degree in Accounting or Business.

We are pleased to announce that Hannah Beveridge of Butler High School in Butler, NJ is the recipient of the 2023 Christopher P. Taft Scholarship. Hannah will be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University/Florham Park in the fall, where she will major in Nursing. Hannah will receive $1,500 each year for four years.

Receiving the 2023 Preferred Foundation Christopher P. Taft Scholarship is Pyper Kneale, who will be attending Tarleton State University, Stephenville, TX with plans to major in both Business Marketing and Agricultural Business. Pyper will receive $1,000 each year for four years.
