NEW BERLIN – After a big win against Walton, the Unadilla Valley Storm hosted Norwich in a non-league match-up. UV scored two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth inning to win 7-1.

UV’s Haleigh Fisher allowed no hits throughout seven innings, but allowed one run to score on a passed ball in the first inning. Norwich also reached base five times on walks.

UV trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning. Fisher led-off the inning with a triple down the left field line and scored on Kailee Figger’s RBI single. Figger scored on Shelby Rose’s infield single with two outs.

Fisher had a quick inning in the top of the fifth, so her offense could go back to work. Pyper Kneale was the second batter for the Storm in the inning and she drilled a ball to center field and went around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. The next runs came on a few defensive mishaps by Norwich, who played a clean game until this point. Bella Jones and Rose drove in the final few runs for the Storm.

Norwich’s Maddy Quattrocchi and UV’s Fisher had a pitchers’ duel throughout the contest before UV’s bats came to life mid-game. Fisher, on the winning side, allowed one run on no hits, walked five batters, and struck out 14. Quattrocchi struck out nine batters and was replaced by Caitlin Wetterhahn in the fifth inning.

UV (5-1) hosts Deposit/Hancock this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. while Norwich is still looking for their first win of the season and hopes it’ll come against Owego on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
