BASEBALL: Norwich Falls To Oneonta

ONEONTA – After facing Oneonta in the second game of the season, the Norwich Purple Tornado returned to the Yellowjackets home field on Monday evening. Oneonta outhit Norwich 15 to six and won 21-7. Norwich and Oneonta will face each other one final time this season in Norwich on May 3.

Oneonta took an early 1-0 lead on a wild pitch thrown by Norwich’s Graham Burton, who earned the start on the mound. They tacked on 12 more runs, including 10 in the third inning before Norwich answered back in the top of the fourth. The Yellowjackets finished their offensive day with eight runs in their final at-bats.

Kaden Downey continues to lead the Purple Tornado on offense. He had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Trey Bates also had multiple hits in his plate appearances while Nick Ragonese and Colin Olds each drove in a run in the loss. Both Ragonese and Olds drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Graham Burton, Trey Bates, and Kassen Stubbs pitched for Norwich, where Bates had four strikeouts and Stubbs was called on to get the final out.

Norwich (0-7) travels to Chenango Valley on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. start.

Sherburne-Earlville falls to Stockbridge Valley in a non-league contest 23-1. No full stats were reported at this time.

SOFTBALL:

Bainbridge-Guilford bounces back from loss to Greene with a 16-1 victory over Delhi/Downsville. Celeste Baldwin strikes out six batters on the mound while Danica Park goes 3-for-4 with two singles and a two-run home run.
