OXFORD – On a wet and gloomy Monday afternoon, the Oxford Blackhawks hosted the neighboring Greene Trojans. Oxford scored four runs off four hits but fell 20-4 in seven innings played.

Greene took an early 1-0 lead as McKenzie Scott scored on a passed ball. Naiomi Smith and the Oxford defense got out of a jam with a caught stealing and two strikeouts to limit the damage.

Oxford tied the game in the bottom half of the first inning as Margaret Rovente reached base on a one-out walk and advanced on a single by Ava Benjamin. Rovente was called safe at the plate after a late tag was attempted by Greene’s Kenzie Button.

Oxford scored their remaining three runs off a few mishaps from the Trojans defense. However, the Blackhawks could not hold Greene from scoring 20 runs on 18 hits.

McKenzie Scott led the Trojans with five hits and four RBIs. She hit back-to-back home runs in two at-bats. Payton Yahner hit a base-clearing double in the second inning and tallied three hits on the day. Nadia Brown had four hits in six plate appearances while Kenzie Button worked on her swing and approach to reach base on three hits.

On the mound, Greene’s Cali Knapp earned her first varsity win as she pitched the complete game. She allowed four runs on four hits, walked three batters, and struck out three in the win.
