NORWICH – On a sunny Friday afternoon in April, the Norwich Purple Tornado baseball team hosted Chenango Forks. Forks took advantage of Norwich’s defensive mishaps to score 12 unearned runs and won 20-6.

Norwich, who had scored 11 runs in their last outing, racked up 10 hits on offense in the loss. Kaden Downey led the team with three hits and one RBI in four plate appearances. He also made a phenomenal catch on a line-drive ball in left field in the sixth to help Norwich get through a scoreless inning on defense.

Trent Marinelli, Colin Olds, and Nick Ragonese had multiple hits with Marinelli driving in three runs in the contest. Kassen Stubbs also had a single in the third.

Norwich used three pitchers on the day with Braden Reid earning the start. Jackson Sastri and Colin Olds also pitched in relief. Sastri had three innings of work and struck out three batters.

Norwich hopes to rebuild its confidence on both sides of the diamond when they travel to Oneonta this evening. The game is expected to begin at 5 p.m.
