SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders took the field for the first time in 2023, hosting the 2-0 New York Mills Marauders on Tuesday. New York Mills took advantage of S-E mishaps and produced big hits on the windy evening to take the game 22-5.

After a quiet first inning for both teams, New York Mills took an early 3-0 lead. Two runs came home on passed balls while one run scored on a late called balk.

S-E was able to answer back in the bottom half of the same inning off an overthrown ball by the defense. However, New York Mills would score five runs in their next at-bats, which they also did in the sixth inning.

The S-E Marauders were no hit but had three runs leading up to the seventh inning. Wyatt Conklin ended the hitless drought with a lead-off single to center. Two batters followed reaching base on back-to-back walks before Robert Marshall hit a single to drive in two runs. The game was called by the home plate umpire following Marshall’s at-bat, ending any other possible scoring for S-E.

S-E (0-1) heads to Sidney on Saturday for a game starting at 11 a.m.
