AFTON – The Afton Crimson Knights baseball team hosted Schenevus on Tuesday afternoon to kick off its 2023 season. The game went into extras after being tied at four, where Afton walked off to win 5-4.

Hunter Baciuska scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth. He made his way to third base during Ryan Wright’s at-bat off a stolen base and a wild pitch. Wright was accredited with the fielder’s choice RBI.

Afton took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning against a shaky Schenevus defense. Adian Roof led off with a walk to start before Hunter Baciuska reached on an error that moved him to second and Roof to third.

Roof scored on Braydon Baciuska’s groundout RBI while Hunter moved to third. Ryan Wright reached on an error that allowed Hunter to score. Matt Carman provided the first hit for both teams with two outs that Wright scored from second on.

Carman led Afton with two hits, including a double to lead-off the seventh inning, but failed to score then. Justin Reeve produced the only other hit for the Crimson Knights on the day with a single in the fifth inning. Others reached base off eight walks by the opposing pitchers.

Schenevus answered back with two runs in the fourth before tying the game at four in the sixth inning. The two runs in the sixth came off an error by Afton. However, the game went into extra innings with Afton coming through in the eighth to win it.
