GIRLS BASKETBALL: Oxford Advances With Win Over South Kortright

OXFORD – After coming up big against GMU to start sectionals, the Oxford Lady Blackhawks welcomed South Kortright on Saturday evening. Oxford advances to the next round of the Class D Tournament after a 50-39 victory.

Oxford’s dominant play in the first half settled in to their comfortable lead throughout the game. The defense held South Kortright to 12 points in the first 16 minutes while the offense produced 23 points.

Both teams played consistently in the second half and finished even with 28 rebounds each. Oxford was able to hang on despite the Rams’ fierceful attempt to comeback late in the game.

Madalyn Barrows posted 24 points and knocked down four three’s for the Blackhawks while Ella Kelsey remains consistent with 10 points scored in the past two games.

Oxford, standing tall as the 2-seed in sectionals, will face Southern Cayuga on Wednesday evening at SUNY Delhi. Southern Cayuga are part of the Interscholastic league. Oxford got to see a little bit of the Chiefs prior to the season in a scrimmage. Admission will be charged through GOFAN Digital Ticketing.
