SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Lady Marauders were lucky enough to get a sectionals game on their home court on Thursday evening. S-E powered through in the second half to defeat Beaver River 50-33.

Both teams started out slow in the first half in a defensive battle. S-E had many opportunities to set up scoring drives but fell unlucky in the first eight minutes of play. Meanwhile, Beaver River celebrated a milestone for Brenna Mast as she scored her 1,000 career point in the first moments of the game.

In the second quarter, they finally pulled through with a big three off the hands of Alex Grzymkowski. That gave S-E momentum to take a five-point lead into halftime.

The Marauders came out strong in the second half, holding the Beavers to single-digit scoring and limiting their three-point confidence. S-E played their best defense on the night with forcing back-to-back turnovers and stealing the ball and it helped them produce on offense.

Senior Trinity Thornton finished with 16 points and had eight rebounds while Chesnee Miller had 11 points, five rebounds, and seven steals on the night. Hannah Todd-Rogers set a team-high 10 rebounds in the victory.

S-E (10-11) will advance to the next sectional round as they head to Cooperstown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
