NEW BERLIN - For the third time this season, the Greene Lady Trojans and the Oxford Lady Blackhawks took the court against each other. This time it was to settle who would go to the MAC girls championship game. Both teams defeated each other once and held a 7-1 record. Greene broke that tie in the final minute as they held on to a 40-38 victory at the neutral court of Unadilla Valley. The Storm was appreciative of hosting the remaining MAC league championship games.

Oxford held on to a brief lead in all three quarters before falling short in the final moments. Both teams performed poorly in shooting as they put up more shots than made, proving a defensive battle. What hurt Oxford was the 24 turnovers they had, which gave Greene a second chance to catch up. However, neither team held on or maintained a big lead to forcefully take the game outright.

Greene was appreciative of earning final free-throws while Oxford tried their hardest to send the game into overtime. Madalyn Barrows, who led all scorers with 19 points, could not hit a crucial three-pointer in the final seconds to tie it up.

The Trojans’ Payton Yahner posted a double-double in the win with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Claire Flanagan finished behind her with eight points and hit two three’s. Cassie Butler contributed with 11 rebounds, including 10 defensive to help capture the victory.

UP NEXT:
Oxford (15-4, 7-2 MAC) have a game scheduled for Wednesday against an undetermined opponent.

It is unsure if Greene (17-1) will have another game, but will face Unatego on Friday at UV in the title game. The game follows the boys championship and will start at approximately 7:30 p.m.
