GIRLS BASKETBALL: Norwich Defeats Sidney

NORWICH – After falling to Sus Valley in their previous game, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls basketball team knew they need to win the non-league matchup against Sidney. Norwich came out on top of the MAC opponent 63-44 to earn their seventh win of the season.

Both teams played consistently throughout the entire contest, but Norwich played a strong first half, coming out with 18 points in the first quarter. They posted 19 in the second quarter to take a whopping 37-22 lead at halftime.

Sidney came out striking to start the second half, but Norwich stayed dominant to finish off the game, still holding on to a strong lead.

Norwich had four core players finish with double-digits in the win. Emma Urgo stepped up with 20 points, which including eight points in the first quarter. Josey Ryan had 19 points for Norwich with four three’s on the night. Olivia Schiraldi knocked down two three’s to finish with 13 as Cameron Van Houten drilled three three-pointers for 11 points.

Norwich (7-12) heads to Vestal for the final regular season game on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
