OXFORD – Since losing to Greene in mid-January, the Oxford Blackhawks girls basketball team have been on a roll, riding on a five-game winning streak, which included defeating Greene in the second meeting. Oxford had also been posting 50 points or more in the last four games, but just missed doing so in the fifth straight game. They earned the 49-24 victory over Unadilla Valley on senior night.

In the packed Oxford high school gymnasium, the crowd and the Blackhawks honored the seven seniors. Madalyn Barrows, Kyla Kelsey-Jones, Bailey Chesebro, Kadence Gallo, Taylor Smith, Naiomi Smith, and Ella Kelsey have brought much success to this year’s team and have proved their strong willed dedication and commitment to the program throughout their high school careers. All ladies have big dreams to attend college and pursue a degree of their choice while hoping to continue to play their respective sport (s) at a college level.

Oxford didn’t waste much time in this contest as they played tremendously on both ends of the court. Their defense played very intensely as they held UV to single-digits in three of four quarters while their offense remained consistent.

The UV Storm matched defensively, but their offense was unable to move and make solid passes. The team also got into foul trouble, where Oxford made nine-of-17 free-throws on the night.

The Lady Blackhawks played their seniors for the majority of the contest, while still subbing in everyone. Madalyn Barrows posted another double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Kyla Kelsey-Jones and Ella Kelsey both tied with nine points a piece.

UV’s Natalie Crandall scored 10 points as Adrienne Hodge had five points in the loss.
