TIOGA – On Saturday, the Norwich Purple Tornado Wrestlers competed at the Section IV, Divison II Qualifiers held in Tioga, where they finished sixth. Tioga finished in first place overall.

Norwich took six wrestlers overall to sectionals, where three made the finals and three took third in their respective weight class.

Out of the three Norwich wrestlers to make the finals, two of three became champions. Maverick Beckwith has won two tournaments, including the sectional win in the 102 weight class. He had a tough match against Tioga’s Logan Bellis, but got the win in the seven minute sudden victory. Beckwith won all three matches on the day.

Mason Edwards finished top overall in the 172 pound weight class, where he took down Marathon’s Julian Spizzirri in a quick :32 seconds. He had three quick pins on the day. He is currently 18-1, going into the sectional championship.

Norwich’s Robert McIntyre fell to Marathon’s Logan Jamison in the 285 finals with a 2:26 pin. McIntyre had won his previous two matches to reach the finals by pins.

Regan Roach (132), Yanni Drapaniotis (152), and Braden Reid (189) all won their consolation matches to bring home third place finishes. All three only lost one match on the day.

Norwich heads to the Section IV, Division II Championship held at the Broome County Arena on February 11.
