NEW BERLIN – The Greene Trojans boys basketball team were eager to return to the court after not playing in a game since January 19. They faced the Unadilla Valley Storm on Thursday, with Greene holding on to a 44-36 victory in the final quarter of regulation.

These two teams had not faced each other in a regular league game yet, but played for the consolation game in the UV Holiday Tournament, which Greene also won.

Greene, riding on a six-game winning streak, looked a bit rusty after some long rest, but pulled through, especially in the second and third quarters. They posted 16 points in the second to take a 23-15 lead at halftime, thanks to 10 points from Liam Flanagan. The Trojans returned from half evenly matched with UV with 12 points.

Both teams played very rough on defense to provide a much challenging game that got close in the final eight minutes. UV made five free-throws in the fourth quarter and were within five points until Greene ended a brief scoring drought late in the contest.

Flanagan led the Trojans with 15 points, including a layup at the buzzer to end the game. William Dunlap finished with 13 points and played consistently throughout all four quarters. Jaden Eroshevich had 11 points in the win.

For UV, Haywood Edwards settled for nine points, having vast opportunities at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter where he made three of eight foul shots. Trent Marinelli, who played excellent defense with multiple steals, finished behind Edwards with eight points in the loss.
