SHERBURNE – After defeating Canastota over the weekend, S-E returned to action against Mount Markham, but fell 47-25.

This was the second meeting where the Mustangs defeated the Marauders, including a 69-44 win in December. S-E has been fighting all season, but have fallen in close challenges. They continue to remain optimistic with a 6-9 record and a handful of games to follow.

Mount Markham showed early on how fierce they were with only six girls on the court. They dominated the middle of the paint, forcing steals and turnovers as S-E could not get solid passes off.

S-E found some room in the second quarter as they got better on rebounding the ball to set up opportunities on offense. But, they could not turn things around in the second half, even in a situation where they were only down by seven or so points. Mount Markham was able to push through and extend their lead in the final eight minutes of a low scoring contest.

Hannah Todd-Rogers led S-E with 10 points, including a crucial basket off a long pass from Chesnee Miller that tripped up Mount Markham. Otherwise, she had trouble finding leverage in the middle, where she normally finds the most success. Trinity Thornton followed behind with eight points in the loss.

S-E has added another non-league game to their schedule with a match-up against Milford on Wednesday before hosting Waterville on Thursday for senior night. Both games will start at 6 p.m.
