Story Continues Below Adverts

Vendors to be featured at Main Street Social include Boda's Door Hangers and More, Enchanted Treasures, Willow Brook Wellness, and Hope Creations. All participating vendors will donate a portion of their sales to the cause.

Additionally there will also be baked goods, raffle tickets, and American flags for sale with 100 percent of proceeds to directly benefit the VFW. Veterans may stop by for a free flag while supplies last.

Headmaster Mike O'Connor said "we need more young people" to join the organization to increase membership. He went on to explain there is a need for "some financial support," but they would also like to work alongside the military housing program offered in Oxford, host events to bring local vets together, and continue supporting the community itself by offering space to host meetings, private parties, and small events.

The Afton VFW is a VFW without a bar scene which you often see associated with such organizations. It would be great to see local vets embracing the fact that Afton offers a dry location to meet and gather.

Currently a group of members and its supporters gather on Wednesday evenings to enjoy an indoor cornhole league, with proceeds to benefit the organization. Cornhole is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. inside the VFW, located at 187 Main Street in Afton.
