NORWICH – Following the conclusion of the 2022 football season, the NY State Football Writers Association selected this year’s Section IV Class all-state football teams. Maine-Endwell won the Class B championship this year and came away with the Co-Player of the Year. Across the board of conventional, 11-player football, section IV alone has 13-first team selections.

Norwich had three talented men get selected, even though none had made the first team. However, Gabe Blenis proved himself worthy on third team offense as an aggressive offensive linemen in his junior year. He looks to do it again next year as a senior.

For fourth team offense, juniors Holden Ryan and Spencer Root were honored. Ryan broke the Chenango County rushing record and Norwich’s single season rushing record with 1,845 total yards. Without the help of Blenis and the offensive line, Ryan wouldn’t been able to achieve that milestone.

Spencer Root, known as “Root the Boot” to everyone, made the list as the team’s talented kicker. He kicked two field goals and made 35 point afters to finish third on the team in scoring with 41 points.

Sophomore Quarterback Steven Dowdall received Honorable mention for his efforts this season. Dowdall went 95 for 170 and threw for 1,297 yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions to finish with a 140.5 quarterback rating. With two seasons left to go, he will try to push through to help his team find success and possible success against Maine-Endwell next season.

Congratulations to all. The Norwich community is so proud of you.
