OXFORD – After Sidney gave Oxford its first loss in the Edmeston Christmas Tournament on December 28, Oxford was much prepared for the rematch in Oxford this time. The Lady Blackhawks defeated the Warriors 52-34 on Friday evening to improve to 8-2 on the season.

All eyes were on Oxford’s Madalyn Barrows and Sidney’s Emma Simmons throughout the entire game. Barrows lead all scorers with 22 points as she knocked down four of 12 three’s attempted and rebounded the ball 21 times. Simmons, who reached the 1,000 point milestone in her previous game, struggled offensively and was held to five points, going 0 for 6 in three-point shots.

Teammate Ava Cirigliano, who was another key player to look out for in this game, picked up the slack and was consistent with 15 points scored throughout three of four quarters.

While Sidney’s offense started to come alive in the final 16 minutes of play, Oxford had already controlled the first half with 33 points, including 22 in the second quarter and built up a 20-point lead at halftime (33-13). Oxford did slow down in the second half, but did not give up the lead at any point of time and stood their ground. The defense played tremendously with collecting 34 rebounds, 13 from Barrows.

Oxford (8-2) will be on the road against Walton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Walton is also 8-2 on the season, so it should be an interesting match-up.
