SOUTH OTSELIC – The Otselic Valley Vikings boys basketball team returned home on Wednesday to face Fabius-Pompey, where they suffered a 66-52 loss. Despite the loss, the home crowd rallied around Braeden Davis, who was celebrated prior to the game.

Davis, a junior guard, surpassed 1,000 points in the loss to Cincinnatus and his milestone joins several other Otselic Valley athletes. Braeden joins Larry Wood, Gary Selover, Doug Caldwell, Melanie Fuller, Danielle Graham, David Cerasani, and Amber Meigs on the wall of the OV 1000 point club.

Braeden was quoted by coaches as being a hard-working athlete and student who can be found around any type of basketball atmosphere from participating in Gus Macker to just practing 500 jump shots in the David W. Loomis gymnasium alone. He would have hit the 1000 point mark last year, but lost the season to COVID. The Vikings were grateful for it to come half way through the season.

In the loss to Fabius-Pompey, Braeden led the team with 35 points, including two of seven three-point shots. Owen Davis finished behind him with nine points.

In the game, both teams were plagued with fouls, where the Falcons had two players foul out while the Vikings had three. The game really came down to the final two quarters, but Fabius-Pompey outscored OV 39 to 23 to win the game.

OV will play Cincinnatus again tonight at 7 p.m. in a rematch, where they hope it will go in their favor.
