MORRIS – On Thursday, the Oxford Lady Blackhawks resumed play in the Joan Martin Classic tournament held in Morris. After defeating Franklin in the first round, they moved on to face host Morris in the championship.

Morris were tough competitors but Oxford pushed through to a 53-41 victory. The Blackhawks are currently 5-0 to start the 2022 season, coming off a previous win against Bainbridge-Guilford.

Ella Kelsey paved the way with 24 points with 16 alone at halftime. Her effort in the last two tournament games led to an all-tournament team award.

There was no doubt who took home the MVP of the tournament and that was Madalyn Barrows. She stood out with 21 points against Morris and 20 in the win over Franklin. She continues to push through as a team leader.

Naiomi Smith and Kyla Kelsey-Jones also earned all-tournament honors.

Oxford will be participating in the Edmeston Christmas Tournament on December 27 against South Kortright before resuming league play on December 30 against Harpursville.
