Few Details About Shooting Victim Or School Lockouts In Oxford

NORWICH – The New York State Police in Norwich are investigating a reported shooting that occurred on Friday.

Police confirmed Tuesday they responded to a 911 complaint at approximately 3:22 p.m., on Friday and responded to Chenango Memorial Hospital and located a woman being treated for an apparent gun shot wound

“A person was shot but the circumstances into the shooting are under investigation,” reported state police.

The same afternoon two nearby Oxford schools briefly went into lockdown as a precaution over a reported shooting but it was not clear how the incidents are related. School officials said the incident did not happen at the schools or on school grounds and deferred comment to police.

Police said they were not sure what triggered the school lockdowns in Oxford but confirmed Tuesday there was no danger to schools or to the public.

They said the incident involved a non-life threatening injury and further details could not be confirmed pending an investigation.

The victim was taken to Chenango Medical Hospital before being transported to Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton.

No other information is available pending a full investigation.
