GIRLS SOCCER: Greene Advances With Overtime Win Against Unatego

UNATEGO – In the first round of sectionals, the Greene Trojans girls soccer team was on the road against Unatego, where they won 4-3 in overtime to advance. In their last meeting in late September, both teams ended in a 2-2 tie in double overtime, so they knew already that this matchup would be tough.

The Trojans were led by Cali Knapp with two goals, while Audra Doll scored one and Cassie Butler scored the game-winner with five and a half minutes left of overtime. Butler also picked up an assist, along with Sarah Markham. Goalie Molly Cornell saved nine shots that went her way.

Unatego put up 24 shots on goal, despite only half going on goal. Avery James scored all three goals with assists by Bailey McCoy, Harly Birdsall, and Elizabeth Craft. Goalie Chelsi VanDeasen made two saves in the loss.

Greene moves on to face Trumansburg on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Boys Soccer: Afton-Harpursville defeats Greene 4-2. Bobby Mercilliott scores two goals and an assist while teammate Ryan Dawson scored two goals and Elijah Baciuska earned an assist. Liam Flanagan and Colin Colgan each scored for Greene.
