On Sunday, October 19, the Faith Formation Students from St. Theresa’s Catholic Church brought a cart full of groceries to the Unadilla Valley Food Pantry. The students, ranging in age from first grade to high school, had collected the food from their church and on their Crop Walk through New Berlin.

While at the food pantry, they learned a little of its history. They also learned about the Regional Food Bank in Syracuse where much of the food is purchased. In addition, food is donated or bought locally to stock the shelves. They then moved the food from their cart to the carts of the pantry. While in the pantry, they learned about the food groups and what foods are stocked within each group. They also had a spirited discussion about their favorite foods and if they could be found on the shelves.

The Unadilla Valley Food Pantry is a community sponsored pantry located at the First Methodist Church. It is open on Mondays from 3-5 PM. Donations to the pantry can be made there, or left at the New Berlin Library. If you need assistance with food, come when the pantry is open or call 965-6419 for emergency access.
