NHS Swimming Defeats Owego

NORWICH – On Tuesday, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls swim team came out on top 95-55 against Owego.

Even though Owego collected 13 points in the diving portion, Norwich dominated through other events. Owego also saw first place finishes in only the 200 yard individual medley and in the 100 yard breaststroke.

As a team, Norwich was on top of all the relay events. In the 200 medley relay, a team of Aurora Shtrauch, Regan Finnegan, Nina Kman, and Mikayla Sastri achieved first place with a time of 2:14.27. Shtrauch, Adrianna Palmer, Olivia Palmer, and Meghan Funk finished strong in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Kman, Finnegan, Sastri, along with Julia Llewellyn earned the victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Norwich also swept two individual events with swimmers finishing in first, second, and third. In the 50 yard freestyle event, Finnegan, Shtrauch, and Olivia Palmer finished in the top three. Llewellyn, Shtrauch, and Olivia Palmer led Norwich in the 100 yard freestyle.

Aside from that, Kman earned top finishes in the 100 yard butterfly and in the 100 yard backstroke. In the 100 yard butterfly, she won by just three seconds over Owego’s Ava Murphy (1:09.18) with a time of 1:06.18. Kman also finished first in the 100 yard backstroke with Sastri coming in third place.

After a strong performance at home, Norwich will be on the road for the Maine-Endwell Invitational on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
